Celebrating World Autism Awareness Day, Egypt’s Ministry of Social Solidarity is to light its building blue on Monday night to raise people’s awareness regarding autism, state media reported.
The building, located in Agouza, is to join hundreds of other institutions in Egypt, including the Suez Canal Authority, in shining blue light on their buildings, calling for support of people with autism Spectrum disorder.
The celebration comes along with a session held by the Egyptian Society for Developing Skills of Special Needs Children in cooperation with the ministry to discuss autism and readjust people’s commonly mistaken points of view regarding it.
The world has celebrated autism awareness on 2 April since 2007. With buildings lit in blue in different countries, World Autism Awareness Day aims to raise people’s acceptance of autism worldwide. It also calls for supporting people with autism through sharing their interests, as the spectrum effects their abilities in communicating with people.
The day is one of the four official health-specific UN days, where worldwide organisations gather to discuss and help in Autism research and treatment of the disorder.
