A report issued by the Damietta Port Authority (DPA) showed an increase of 1.8% in the number of ships at the port in January 2018 compared to January 2017. According to the report, the number of ships docked at Damietta Port had increased to 224 in January compared to 220 ships a year prior.
The report indicated an increase of dry bulk ships by 12.3%, increasing from 57 ships in January 2017 to 64 ships in January 2018, while special nature vessels also increased by 33.3%, rising from six ships in 2017 to eight in 2018.
According to the report, the volume of cargo handled at the port increased by 14.8% compared to the same period in 2017. The volume of cargo handled by the port reached 3.5m tonnes in January 2018 compared to 3.1m tonnes in January 2017.
The number of the twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) containers traded at the port increased in January 2018 by 35% year-over-year, rising from 87,800 to 119,200 in January this year.
Exported containers also increased by 42% in January to score 60,200 TEU, up from 42,700 last year.
Imported containers also increased by 30% in the same period, reaching 58,500, up from 45,000 containers.
