The Agriculture Bank of Egypt (ABE) received 301,000 tonnes of wheat from farmers from the beginning of the 2018 season through to 29 April, with a total value of EGP 1.17bn, compared to 11,700 tonnes in the same period of last year, according to the bank’s Chairperson Elsayed Elkosayer

The governorates of Beheira, Minya, and Sharqeya topped the supply list for local wheat with quantities of 46,000, 38,400, and 30,600 tonnes respectively, Elkosayer told Daily News Egypt.

Part of the ABE’s plan is to work on the climatic conditions witnessed by Egypt recently, Elkosayer said, adding that the bank is ready to work under any conditions through applying all precautionary measures to preserve the grain and protect it from any new climatic conditions, by providing various means of protection.

He added that the bank’s efforts to facilitate local wheat supply procedures confirm its mission in supporting the efforts of the state to receive and maintain the strategic wheat grain, in accordance with the specifications set by the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade.
