Aiming to take a step forward in the Historic Cairo Restoration Project (HCPR), the Ministry of Antiquities announced on Wednesday the commencement of procedures to study the Hosh al-Pasha archaeological site in Al-Imam Al-Shafie district in order to document the severely damaged parts in need of restoration, according to a ministerial press release.
Mohamed Abdel Aziz, general manager of the HCPR, explained in the press release that the study includes the “hosh” (courtyard) and its surrounding areas, as well as “installing an electronic monitoring system to monitor minute by minute the movement of cracks and tilting of the walls,” he said, adding, “the project will also inspect the movements of the ground and the level of subterranean water and its reflection on the monuments’ foundations in order to suggest appropriate solutions to reduce its level and consolidate the foundations.”
The restoration process includes installing new lighting, security, and electronic fire extinguisher monitoring systems, the statement read.
Hosh al-Pasha is a distinguished archaeological site that includes a collection of royal tombs from the era of the Muhammad Ali Pasha.
