Al Ahly SC demanded Egypt’s minister of youth form a financial committee to assure that the donations granted by the Saudi sports administrator, Turki Al-Sheikh, have been spent to achieve their agreed upon purposes.
On Thursday, then Al Ahly’s honorary president, Al-Sheikh, announced on his Facebook page that he will leave his position at the Egyptian Premier League champions, Al Ahly.
“I was keen on making Al Ahly and their fans my top priorities and I followed their worries and ambitions with much interest,” Al-Sheikh’s statement read.
Al-Sheikh played a significant role at the club through financial support. However, the relation between him and Al Ahly fans came to an end when the team’s negotiations with Argentinean manager Ramon Diaz failed and he was appointed the new manager of Jeddah’s Al-Ittihad.
Moreover, Al-Sheikh said that Mahmoud El-Khatib, chairperson of Al Ahly, asked him to sign either Ismaily’s Mohamed Awad or Zamalek’s Ahmed El-Shennawy for the goalkeeper position, and that he indeed met with El-Shennawy to negotiate with him but was surprised to find Bibo contacting him later on to retract his decision, saying that the player is from Port Said and it would be difficult for Al Ahly fans to accept him.
He also claimed that he supported El-Khatib with EGP 6m during his campaign, and that he supported the club with almost EGP 260m.
