Minister of Trade and Industry Tarek Kabil discussed with representatives of fashion companies the establishment of the first Egyptian council for design and fashion.
Kabil pointed out that paying attention to the field of design and fashion will put Egyptian products on the map of outstanding global productions and contribute to increasing sales of Egyptian products in world markets.
During his meeting with representatives of Egyptian companies working in the fields of fashion, design, jewellery, and commercial agencies, the minister discussed the initiative to establish the council.
Kabil pointed out that the new council aims to implement a long-term strategy to present an Egyptian fashion week in 2020 as one of the most important fashion weeks in the world, which will contribute to promoting Egyptian brands to expand their business in various Arab and international cities.
Kabil noted that the council is to contribute to giving Egypt a global name and offer opportunities for manufacturing and exporting value-added brands, which are based on high-quality Egyptian cotton products.
For her part, Marie Louis Bishara, vice chairperson of Bishara Group, explained that the council also aims to support, encourage, and develop human capital by providing specialised training programmes covering all aspects of that industry and contributing to the promotion of the tourism sector by preserving Egyptian heritage in design, fashion, and handicrafts.
Bishara added that the council will contribute to helping local industry meet international standards of design and quality and developing skills of Egyptian designers and making their work available locally and globally.
She elaborated that the council also will encourage owners of international brands and designers to pay attention to Egyptian products as well as strengthen the relations between boards of fashion companies and pioneering designers.
Azza Fahmy, chairperson and head designer of Azza Fahmy Company, a global jewellery brand, said, “the Egyptian council for fashion and design aims to support and encourage Egyptian talents and projects in fashion and design at the local, regional, and global levels through providing education, training, consulting, project development, and financial support services.
