President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi described government reshuffles as essential in order to give a chance to new individuals, asserting that the cabinet of outgoing Prime Minister Sherif Ismail will be honoured.
He made the remarks in a speech given at a celebration of Laylat Al-Qadr, which is considered the holiest night of the year for Muslims and is traditionally celebrated on the 27th day of Ramadan.
On Monday, Al-Sisi called on religious preachers to intensify efforts to defend Islam and modify the “flawed image” of the religion due to violence and terrorism. He also praised the role of Al-Azhar’s moderate clerics in spreading tolerant Islamic discourse.
Egypt’s newly assigned prime minister, Mostafa Madbouly, is considering the possibility of reducing the number of ministries from 33 to 24, according to state-owned daily Al-Ahram.
Moreover, the newspaper stated that Madbouly has decided on his final list of cabinet ministers, which will include new ministers as well as some ministers who were part of Ismail’s cabinet.
Egypt’s prime minister-designate was tasked on Thursday with forming a new cabinet after the resignation of Ismail, who headed the government since September 2015.
On the other hand, reports from state-owned media outlets state that the Egyptian Parliament agreed to the list of ministers compiled by Madbouly.
