The United Nations Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, a subsidiary organ of the UN General Assembly, will convene, with the support of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, the International Conference on the Question of Jerusalem from 26 to 28 June in Rabat, Morocco.
A Monday press statement from the United Nations Information Centre in Cairo (UNIC) said that the conference’s theme is The Question of Jerusalem after 50 years of Occupation and 25 years of the Oslo Accords.
The committee is organising the conference in accordance with General Assembly Resolutions 72/11 and 72/13 and its 2018 Programme of Work, said the statement, noting that the conference will provide an opportunity for member states to manifest their positions and share opinions, particularly in light of recent developments.
The conference will provide a valuable platform for youth from East Jerusalem to present their plight to the international community, and for participants to discuss and identify actionable solutions to the challenges confronting the youth, as vital to the future of the city and the goals of a sustainable peace, added the statement.
The conference will be inaugurated on 26 June at the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the presence of Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita, Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs Riyad Al-Malki, United Nations Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs Miroslav Jenča, and Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Assistant Secretary General Samir Bakr.
The United Nations Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, in the statement, offered its sincere appreciation for Moroccan King Mohamed VI on establishing and chairing the Al-Quds Committee of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.
The committee also acknowledged the support being provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Morocco to the conference, added the statement.
