The Administrative Control Authority (ACA) arrested on Monday the head of the Dokki district and two others accused of bribery.
The head of the neighbourhood, a contractor, and a mediator working in the legal field were accused of receiving a sum of EGP 250,000 and a residential unit located on Al-Batal Ahmed Abdel Aziz Street, which cost about EGP 2m.
The bribe came in exchange for the head of the district disregarding taking legal action against building violations of the real estate property, which should have been removed, as it unjustifiably achieved profits of more than EGP 10m for these contractors.
The defendants are in custody until being referred to prosecution for investigations.
In January, the ACA arrested Menoufiya Governor Hesham Abdel Basset and two businesspersons during the alleged delivery of a bribe.
The ACA has been actively trying to tackle corruption cases across various entities in Egypt.
Among the incidents monitored in December 2016 was a corruption case related to the State Council, in which three officials in the purchasing department were arrested in possession of large sums of money and gold that they received as bribes. The report stated that the State Council officials’ case was “one of the biggest corruption cases in Egypt.”
In October, the State Security Prosecution ordered the imprisonment of a Suez Governorate official and two other defendants for four days pending investigations into bribery charges. The official was arrested while receiving a bribe from a contractor for issuing illegal licenses.
