Egypt will participate at the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development which will be organised from 9-18 July at the UN Headquarters in New York, to present its voluntary national reviews (VNRs) towards achieving sustainable development goals, said Irena Zubcevic, chief of intergovernmental policy and review at the office of intergovernmental support and coordination for sustainable development of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs.

Egypt previously presented its VNRs in 2016 and the UN closely follows up with Egypt to know the economic areas that the county still faces problems with to help iton, Zubcevic told Daily News Egypt at an online preparatory media briefing on Wednesday.

Thousands of government, business, and civil society leaders will gather at the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development to review successes, discuss challenges, and mobilise efforts to achieve sustainable development goals, said a press advisory from the UN Information Centre, noting that the forum is the central platform for tracking progress at the global level.

The press advisory added that 47 countries will participate in the forum in 2018, including developed and developing countries, which will speak on the actions they are taking to achieve the goals during the three-day ministerial meeting from 16-18 July, where they will present their VNRs.

The theme of this year’s forum is “Transformation towards sustainable and resilient societies” and a specific set of goals will also be reviewed in depth, said the advisory.
