President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi on Monday appointed Major General Mohsen Abdel Naby as the new presidential chief of staff, succeeding General Abbas Kamel, who was appointed as chief of the General Intelligence Directorate after serving as the presidential chief of staff since Al-Sisi came to power in 2014.
Abdel Naby, who was the chief of the military’s Department of Morale Affairs, graduated from the Military Academy in 1978. Since his graduation, Abdel Naby has been promoted to several military ranks until he became the vice chief of the Department of Morale Affairs from January 2012 to January 2014, when he became the chief of the department.
He has been awarded several national medals, including the 25 April Medal in 1982, the Medal of Long Service and Good Role in 2000, the Medal of Excellent Service in 2009, the First-Class Medal for Training in 2009, the Second-Class Medal for Military Duty in 2010, and the Medal of the Silver Anniversary for Sinai’s Liberation.
He was also awarded the Medal of the Golden Anniversary of the 23 July Revolution, the Medal of the Silver Anniversary of the 6 October Triumph, the Medal of 25 January in 2012, the Medal for Military Duty in 2012, and the 30 June Medal.
During his leadership at the Department of Morale Affairs, Abdel Naby inaugurated and developed the Centre for Military Media to follow local, regional, and international media.
