Minister of Transportation Hesham Arafat held an inspection tour for the first and second part of the fourth stage of the metro’s third line, according to the ministry’s spokesperson, Mohamed Ezz.
The tour started with a meeting with the executing companies. The minister directed the necessity of adhering to the schedule of implementation of the project.
He also inspected the exchange station, Adly Mansour, near Heliopolis, in addition to inspecting the main workshop of the third line, which covers 63 feddans.
The percentage of construction of the second part reached 40% and is scheduled to open in December 2019. This part includes five stations, which the minister also inspected.
The first phase is 5.15 km long and consists of four underground stations—Haroun, Heliopolis, Alf Maskan, Al-Shams SC—and one station above ground, which is Al Nozha.
The construction of first part reached 85% and is scheduled to open in December 2018.
The cost of the entire third line is up to EGP 100bn, said the minister on the side-lines of the ceremony, while the first line’s maintenance cost stands at EGP 20bn. He added that the Cairo metro requires EGP 140bn through 2022 for the completion of the third and fourth lines.
