Majid Al Futtaim Retail, which holds the exclusive franchise rights to operate Carrefour in 38 countries, and the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development, one of family-funded foundations in Egypt set up with an endowment from the Sawiris family, signed a partnership agreement for the enhancement of life of persons with disabilities. Under this partnership, the “Know Me, Accept Me” Initiative was launched in cooperation with SETI Centre – Caritas Egypt.
The initiative aims to provide training and employment opportunities for youth with disabilities, and raise awareness among society about disabilities.
The partnership is closely aligned with President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi‘s decision to declare 2018 as the year of people with disabilities, thereby issuing new laws to ensure that their rights are protected.
The “Know Me, Accept Me” project aims to create training opportunities for youth with disabilities at Carrefour outlets in Cairo, Alexandria, Mansoura, Tanta, and Hurghada, and to employ them in appropriate jobs within the labour market or help them create their own small business ventures.
The project is also aimed at raising awareness around the types of day-to-day difficulties facing those with disabilities.
