The CEO of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), Abed Ezz El-Regal, said that the country’s production of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) reached about 15,000 tonnes per day in the local market, which fulfils the state’s needs, specifically commercial and household consumption.
He added that the state is keen to meet the local market’s needs of LPG, whether through local production of approximately 8,000 tonnes per day in various refineries or imports amounting to 7,000 tonnes per day.
Ezz El-Regal pointed out that the sector’s plans aim at expanding in production of petroleum products in different refineries, in parallel with the development and rehabilitation programmes of the production units that will increase their capacities to 38m tonnes annually. The development programmes will contribute to the production of petroleum products in line with international standards.
He pointed out that the recent oil discoveries made by many foreign companies in Egypt under the umbrella of the EGPC will provide the necessary quantities of crude oil needed to produce fuel, which will reduce imports.
On 16 June, the government raised the prices of petroleum products, including LPG cylinders, which increased to EGP 50 from EGP 30 for household consumption, while it reached EGP 100 instead of EGP 60 for commercial consumption.
