Al-Sisi issues law on treatment of senior military ranks

President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi ratified on Thursday the law 161 of 2018 regarding the treatment of some senior military leaders of the armed forces.

The decision was published in the official gazette on Thursday, following the presidential decision and after it was approved by the House of Representatives.

According to  Article 1 of the law: “senior officers of the armed forces that the president issues a decision under their names, shall be summoned to serve the armed forces for the rest of their lives.”

The Article 2 of the law states that “all senior commanders of the armed forces who did not serve as ministers, shall be treated as ministers and take all the privileges and rights prescribed for ministers in the government.”

No investigation procedure or any judicial action can be initiated against any of the mentioned in this law for any act committed, doing their duties during the suspension of the constitution period until the date that the House of Representatives resumes its work, and a permission of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces is needed for taking any action against those mentioned in the law, according to Article 5.

The law also grants senior officers the same status as diplomats, during the process of traveling.
