Internet market adds 500,000 new customers through April 2018

The internet market added 500,000 new customers during the month of April compared to March 2018, where the total number of internet users in Egypt reached 39.6 million users in April, compared to 39.1 million users in March 2018.

According to a report by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the number of mobile internet users decreased by 2.5% in April, as the number of mobile internet users decreased from 31.47 million in March to 30.68 million in April 2018.

Meanwhile, the number of internet users via USB modems rose dramatically during the month of April, hiking by 60.2%.

According to the report, the number of internet users via USB modem rose from 2.15 million in March to 3.45 million in April 2018.

The report showed a growth of 1.8% in the number of ADSL internet users, as the number of users rose from 5.5 million in March to 5.6 million in April 2018.

Greater Cairo accounted for 40% of the total number of internet users, followed by the Delta with 31%, Upper Egypt with 13%, Alexandria and Marsa Matrouh with 10%, and the Canal cities and Red Sea with 6%.

Comparing the number of internet users in April 2018 by the same period in 2017, the report shows that the internet market has lost 1.4 million users, from 41 million in April 2017 to 39.6 million in April 2018.

Furthermore, the ministry’s report showed an increase in the number of land line users by 3.2% in April, as the number of users increased from 7.2 million in March 2018 to 7.4 million in April.
