Alexandria National Refine and Petrochemical (ANRPC) plans to open its new project of high-octane gasoline production next month with $233m worth of investment.
Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El-Molla said the new project comes as part of the ministry’s current programme to increase domestic production of high-value petroleum products, especially gasoline and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
This programme aims to achieve self-sufficiency through increasing local production, and development and upgrading of Egyptian refineries, either through development of existing production units or opening new projects to secure the needs of the local market and reduce importing.
The current project aims to double ANRPC’s production of 92- and 95-octane gasoline, a rise of about 850,000 tonnes annually, increasing the company’s contribution to local consumption from 10% to 21.5%, which will decline importing.
The company will also increase its production of LPG to reach 38,000 tonnes annually. The project is implemented by the Engineering for the Petroleum and Process Industries (ENPPI) as a general contractor, while the Petroleum Projects and Technical Consultations Company (Petrojet) took over installation work.
During the minister’s visit to ANRPC, the head of the company, Mohamed Hassanen, reviewed the company’s production of 92- and 95-octane gasoline, LPG, propane, and naphtha products.
Hassanen also presented the company’s future projects which will increase the efficiency of operation and production. These projects include the establishment of a methanator unit, an extraction unit of sulfolane and reformat, an ammonia production unit, and industrial wastewater treatment.
