The death toll resulted from floods and torrential rains in Kerala state in south-western India rose to 324.
The flooding further resulted in damaging dams and roads, and the demolition of houses.
The state government chief Pinaray Vijayan, said that “324 lives have been lost” in 10 days of floods in the state, particularly in a touristic destination, depicting the incident as the worst floods in a century.
For evacuation, hundreds of people were stranded on the roofs of their homes to avoid the unprecedented floods, while rescue workers used helicopters and boats.
Thousands of rescuers have sought to transport stranded people to 1,200 state-run camps, with more than 150,000 already in camps.
The heavy rains and floods over the past eight days have hurt aviation and rail services in Kerala, which is a popular tourist destination with beautiful beaches.
The Indian disaster department said on Wednesday that the toll of death due to flood in Kerala is on the rise.
