The Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) revealed on Sunday that the number of live births reachedd 2,557,440 births in 2017 compared to 2,600,173 births in 2016, a decline of 1.6%.
According to CAPMAS`s annual bulletin of births and deaths statistics in e2017, the crude birth rate reached 26.8 per thousand in 2017 compared to 28.6 per thousand in 2016.
In terms of the sex ratio at birth, CAPMAS declared that it reached 105 Male /100 Female in 2017, the same as it was in 2016.
CAPMAS explained further that male births reached 1,308,488 in 2017 compared to 1,329,425 in 2016, a decline of 1.5 %.
On the other hand, CAPMAS stated ethat the number of female births reached 1,247,952 in 2017 compared to 1,270,748 in 2016, decline of 1.8 %.
The CAPMAS revealed that the urban births reached 1,292,661, with 50.5% of the total number of live births in 2017 compared to 1,241,469 with 47.7% of the total number of live births in 2016.
Meanwhile, srural births reached 1,264,779 with 49.5% of the total number of live births in 2017 compared to 1,358,704 with 52.3% of the total number of live births in 2016.
According to CAPMAS, Cairo came at the forefront of governorates in terms of number of live births with 239,112 in 2017 compared to 241,248 in 2016, decline of 0.9%.
On contrary, South Sinai was ranked the last in terms of the number of live births with 3,140 in 2017 compared to 3,372 in 2016, decline of 6.9%.
In terms of the crude birth rate, CAPMAS stated that Marsa Matrouh recorded the highest crude birth rate as it reached 55.1 per thousand in 2017 compared to 48.6 per thousand in 2016.
On the other hand, “Port-Said recorded the lowest crude birth rate as it reached 19.1 per thousand in 2017 compared to 22.4 per thousand in 2016,” according to CAPMAS.
