Accrediting him for his achievements during his short journey, The Toronto Film Festival selected young Egyptian actor Ahmed Malek to be honoured at 2018 Rising Stars Programme as one of the eight up and coming young acting talents list who have had a successful career during the past year and are poised for international success.
The festival takes place from September 6-12. The Toronto Film Festival witnessed the premiere of Malek’s film last year, El-Sheikh Jackson, where he co-starred Ahmed El-Fishawy in the film that was internationally accredited, before being selected as Egypt’s official submission into the 2018 Academy Awards for Best Foreign-Language Film.
The selection is the second of its kind in an international film festival. In December 2017, he was picked by Screen International as one of the five Arab Stars of Tomorrow during the Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF).
Established in 2011, TIFF Rising Stars is a four-day intensive programme featuring a series of specialised programming organized by TIFF’s Industry team which includes seminars with filmmakers, as well as a series of unique networking opportunities and invitations to attend TIFF screenings and events.
Malek is currently taking part in his first international film Montreal Girls, where he plays the role of a young Arab student who goes to Montreal for a scholarship and dreams of being a poet, before he meets three girls who shatter his perceptions and reveal to him his true destiny.
