First stage of virus C screening project to start in September

The first stage of virus C screening national project will be implemented in nine governorates during the upcoming three months starting September.

During this stage, fifteen million citizens will perform analysis of virus C, which its results will be out in five minutes, in addition to dispensing medicines immediately and free of charge.

The Ministry of Health is keen to reduce the incidence of virus C to less than 2%.

This project came as part of the state attempts to improve health condition in the country, which had suffered deterioration for long years.

Egypt is among the nations most affected by hepatitis C virus (HCV) and needs a comprehensive diagnosis of HCV epidemiology to inform the scale of treatment and prevention programmes, according to a study published in Scientific Reports.

On Saturday, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi followed during a meeting with Minister of Health the latest developments in the medical project of virus C and the preparations for the implementation the national comprehensive health insurance project that is supposed to start in Port Said governorate as a part of the first stage.

In January 2018, the Ministry of Health announced performing examination on 5 million people to check whether they are affected by the disease. The scan is expected to take place from October 2018 till April 2019 in all Egyptian governorates.
