The Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EEG) will issue a pre-existing experienced companies’ list of 600 megawatt solar power plants in the West Nile region and qualified companies in September, sources from the company told Daily News Egypt.
The “auctions” system will be applied to the West Nile project, while specifications and requirements for the project will be issued in September, said the sources.
The sources added that the project could be awarded to one or more companies based on the lowest price offered to sell electricity produced from the project.
The list of companies that have advanced their bids in the tender are: Previous experience , JCL New Energy, and the alliance, Masdar-Ginko , TBC Limited , and the alliance, Karam Solar – First Solar – Light Source , Infinity, EDRA, Toyota, Tsusho, and Exona-Swicorp.
The list includes Orascom, Al Fanar-Risin Solar Technology, Globalek-Africa TCK, Skatek Solar Azure Power, Chint-Acquabauer Alliance, Solar Research Coalition, and TAQA Arabia .
The list of companies with advanced experience in the solar power plant in the West Nile region includes the Marubeni-EDF-Swedish Electric, Actis, Total Egypt, and Tibia.
In accordance with the terms of the tender, the bidding company or consortium must have implemented at least three of solar power projects with a capacity of 100 megawatts and provide documents indicating the solvency of the stations.
The new and renewable energy authority grants the operator the right of use for 25 years. The operator of the stations will design, implement, finance and operate the stations under the Build Own Operate system.
The Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company will purchase the energy produced from the projects under the energy purchase agreement.
The new and renewable energy authority allocated 4,200 skm to establish solar and wind stations in the western Nile region in the governorates of Beni Suef, Minya and the New Valley, in addition to 2,200 square km in the East Nile to establish solar and wind stations in Beni Suef, Minya and Assiut governorates.
The Ministry of Electricity aims to produce 20% of the new and renewable energy within the capabilities produced on the national grid of electricity by 2022.
