Government bans heavy trucks from accessing Cairo’s Ring Road in mid-September

Egypt’s government has issued a decree banning heavy trucks from accessing Cairo’s Ring Road starting from mid-September.

The ban will be applied starting from 6:00 am until midnight.

Trucks will only be permitted to access the new Regional Ring Road which connects seven governates Giza, Ismailia Suez, Sharqia, Qaliobya, Monofya, and Fayom with Cairo.

The gesture came during a meeting held on Sunday between Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and ministers of transport and communication, as well as top officials from the Ministries of Defence, Interior, and Health.

Meanwhile, Madbouly called on concerned officials to improve mobile networks on the Regional Ring Road and intensify security and army presence to ensure drivers’ compliance with the decree.

Last July, the Transport Ministry announced the completion of the new Regional Ring Road, which will connect seven governates with the main entrances of Cairo.

The new road will be opened during coming few days and is expected to reduce traffic jams on old roads and enrich enhance movements inside the country.
