A report issued by the Damietta Port Authority showed a decline in the number of ships at the port in July compared to July 2017.
The report explained that 254 visited the berths of the Damietta Port in July 2018 down from 260 vessels in the same month of 2017, marking a decline of 2.3%.
Dry bulk ships dropped by 13.9% in July, while general cargo vessels increased by 14%.
The report stated the dry bulk cargo handled at the port in July increased by 17%, reaching 3.6m tonnes in July up from 3.1m tonnes in 2017.
Traditional general cargo also increased this year by 47.1%.
The report noted that the number of twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) handled at the port increased slightly in July 2018 compared to the same month in 2017, where the number of containers increased from 91,500 in 2017 to 91,700 TEU in July this year.
According to a previous report, the volume of cargo handled at the port increased by 2.8% compared to the same period of 2017. The volume of cargo handled at the port reached 3.2m tonnes in May 2018, compared to 3.1m tonnes in May 2017.
The volume of liquid bulk goods increased by 495.7% in May 2018, while general cargo increased by 64.7% and the volume of goods in containers increased by 1%.
