The Egyptian national swimming team swept the 13th CANA Swimming and Open Water Championships, hosted by Algeria from 10 to 16 September. CANA stands for the African Swimming Association (Confederation Africaine De Natation Amateur). Egyptian swimmers topped the tournament, bagging 44 medals, including 27 gold, 14 silver, and three bronze.
Egypt won the overall cup, and the Egyptian men and women teams were named the best, while Mohamed Samy and Hania Moro clinched the best swimmer cups. Samy secured 11 gold medals, and one bronze.
The Egyptian men’s team won a total of 29 medals, including 18 gold, eight silver, and three bronze. Meanwhile, the women’s team won a total of 17 medals, including 11 gold and six silver.
Egypt surpassed South Africa, which dominated the game in the African continent for a long period, with more than 10 gold medals.
The Egyptian champions are Mohamed Samy (11 gold – one bronze), Marwan El-Kamash (seven gold – one silver), Youssef El-Kamash (three gold – two silver), Ali Khalaf Allah (four gold – two silver), Abdel Rahman Sameh (two gold – one bronze), Ahmed Hamdy Salem (one gold – one bronze), Marwan El-Amrawy (one gold – three silver), Farida Othman (five gold – three silver), Hania Moro (four gold – two silver), Rowida Hesham (one gold – four silver), and Samiha Mohsen (three gold – three silver).
