Egypt automotive sales reach 96,000 vehicles in first seven months of 2018

Egypt’s total sales of vehicles reached 96,381 units in the first seven months of 2018, compared to 69,785 vehicles in the same period of last year, an increase of 38.1%, according to the Automotive Marketing Information Council (AMIC) report in July.


Sales of imported cars reached 48,162 units, up by 53.1% compared to 2017, and sales of locally assembled cars reached 48,219 units, with an increase of 25.8%.


The sales of passenger cars in the first seven months of this year, recorded 69,901 units, a rise of 29% compared to the same period in last year, which recorded 49,617 units.


The sold vehicles included 41,182 imported units, a hike of 54.3%, compared to 26,683 imported sold units in the first seven months of last year. It also included 28,719 vehicles assembled locally, with an increase of 25.2%, compared to 22,934 vehicles last year.


The July sales of passenger cars in Egypt rose to 12,471 units, up by 29%, compared to 9,637 vehicles in July 2017.


In July, the sales of SUVs saw 61.3% increase, up from 2,486 units in July 2017, to 4,011 units. It came as a result of an increase estimated at 92% in sales of SUVs with a capacity of less than 2 litres, as 3,749 vehicles were sold in this July, compared to 1,956 cars in July 2017.


While minibus sales fell to only 58 units in July, compared to 106 units in July 2017. Buses sales generally increased by almost 47.7% in that month compared to the same period last year.


In the first seven months of this year, sales of buses increased to 8,570 units, a 13.9% increase compared to 7,373 units last year.
