The Minister of Trade and Industry Amr Nassar issued a decision to amend the planned export price of nitrogen fertilisers to EGP 500 per tonne up from EGP 125 for one year. The decision aims to provide the quantities of nitrogen fertilisers needed for agriculture and limit exports to surplus to achieve balance in the domestic fertilisers market and compel producers to fulfil their entire quota allocated for the Ministry of Agriculture.
This decision comes as a result of the data received from the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, which pointed to the lack of commitment of some companies to deliver quotas, which impacted farmers. Only 618,500 tonnes were delivered between March and June of 1.35m tonnes allocated for the ministry in this period.
The ministerial decision No 685 for 2013 on imposing export fees had exempted companies from fees if they receive a certificate from the Ministry of Agriculture for fulfilling the required monthly quota.
