The New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) set the deadline for receiving financial bids from the three companies that qualified for the 250 MW Gulf of Suez wind farm tender.

Sources from the NREA told Daily News Egypt that official letters were sent to Sinfon Power, Vestas Energy, and Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, inviting them to present their financial bids before 9 December.

The sources pointed out that the NREA allowed the companies to visit the project’s site on 7 November and it communicated that their inquiries about the project can be received on 8 November.

Germany’s Lahmeyer International acts as consultant for the tender, while the German government-owned KfW Bank will arrange the project’s financing worth €260m.

Seven international companies have submitted their bids to establish the project. The NREA selected only three companies to review each one’s technical and financial solvency.

In a related context, the NREA intends to receive financial bids from the five companies that qualified for the 50 MW solar power project in Zaafrana by December.

DNV GL— an international accredited registrar—acts as this project’s consultant which will be implemented according to international standards, and is set to receive €50m in funds from the KfW Bank.

The Ministry of Electricity aims to produce 20% of energy from new and renewable resources by 2020, and to open the way for the private sector to invest in power production projects.
