Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry heads to Addis Ababa on Tuesday to attend the 20th extraordinary session of the African Union (AU) Executive Council taking place on 14 – 15 November, according to ministry’s spokesperson Ahmed Hafez.
The minister will also attend the 11th extraordinary session of the AU heads of state and government conference that will be held on 17 – 18 November.
The session will discuss the current situation of the process of institutional and financial reforms of the AU and will review reports on the amendment of the AU Commission and other AU bodies.
Shoukry will hold bilateral talks during the AU meetings on bilateral relations and regional issues of common concern.
In September, Shoukry headed to Addis Ababa to attend a ministerial retreat on the AU Commission reform.
Egypt has repeatedly cited support for institutional reform in the AU, participating in discussions over the issue in the most recent assembly last June.
Egypt was elected by African leaders in Addis Ababa to head the African Union’s upcoming 31st session in 2019, the Egyptian presidency announced in January.
