The US Embassy in Cairo and Injaz Egypt announced the launch of ‘Startup Egypt 2019’ project, one of the largest entrepreneurship channels in the country, according to an embassy statement on Wednesday.

Startup Egypt takes a sustainable, long-term approach to entrepreneurship by enrolling enthusiastic and creative graduates between the ages of 21 and 30, from any field of study, with minimal business experience, and transforming them into successful entrepreneurs, with innovative new businesses which contribute to the national economy and generate jobs.

The embassy’s Deputy Chief of Mission Dorothy Shea said “we are proud to partner with Injaz Egypt in support of this exciting opportunity for young Egyptians to bring their ideas to the marketplace. Through training, mentorship, and networking, Startup Egypt 2019 will get businesses off the ground, and support the growth of Egypt’s private sector.”

“This 8th round of Startup Egypt will begin accepting applications from candidates by mid-November. We are so proud that this programme has helped launch 65 startups, and most of them have gone on to create extremely successful businesses locally, regionally and internationally,” Founder of Injaz, Dina El Mofty, said.

The US embassy in Cairo’s support for this project is part of long-standing efforts to support the development of Egypt’s economy, and our commitment to helping Egyptian entrepreneurs build successful enterprises which support employment and economic growth, noted the statement.

Moreover, Shea said that there many successful examples graduated from the US entrepreneurship programmes over the past 10 years, noting, “Now., Zooba restaurant’s founder is in New York City to open a new franchise. He is exporting his business abroad.”
