Ministry of Health has conducted more than 54,598 surgery operations of the total 77,826 cases on the waiting lists that have registered as part of the presidential initiative for finishing the urgent waiting lists, according to Minister of Health Hala Zayed.
Zayed said on Saturday that the rate of conducting surgeries has reached 300% of the target in four months since the beginning of the initiative which firstly targeted curing 17000 patients in six months.
She added that the governor of the Central Bank of Egypt Tarek Amer supports the initiative since its first day, and helped in providing the needed medical instruments for surgeries, as well as providing funds for the hospitals.
Health Ministry spokesperson Khaled Mogahed said that 164 hospitals including 99 governmental hospitals are part of the initiative.
The Ministry has also conducted the national survey for combating hepatitis C in order to benefiting from the outcomes of the survey in studying the state’s future plans to save the people’s health.
Egypt has achieved a real progress in curing hepatitis C according to the World Health Organisation (WHO), after curing about two million patients in the country, by the lowest cost of medicine worldwide USD 78, that opened up the prospect of medical tourism in the country.
