Six militants killed in shoot-out with security forces

Six militants were killed in a shoot-out with security forces during a raid on a terrorist camp in a desert area on the Assiut-Sohag desert road, according to a Saturday statement by the Ministry of Interior.

This came after the police received information about a terrorist hideout near of the Juhayna Police Station in Sohag.

The security forces raided the hideout on Saturday. The terrorists exchanged fire with the forces.

The police found 4-calibre automatic rifles, two shot guns, some bullets, an explosive device, and planning charts.

The Supreme State Security Prosecution is conducting investigations into the incident, the statement also noted.

An extensive military operation titled ‘Sinai 2018’ has been ongoing in the region since 9 February 2018, leading the armed forces to kill dozens of alleged militants. In November 2017, President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi vowed to restore stability by eradicating terrorism, placing the military and police in charge of completing this task within a period of three months. This came after a massive first-of-its-kind terror attack on a mosque in Al-Arish, leaving at least 305 citizens killed.
