The Fruit Logistica exhibition concluded on Friday its three-day activities in the German Capital Berlin, where Egypt participated with a distinguished pavilion of 1,390 sqm and included 73 vegetables and fruit companies.
Egypt’s participation in the exhibition was arranged by the Export Development Authority in cooperation with the Agriculture Export Council and the German-Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
Ambassador of Egypt to Germany, Badr Abdelatty, participated in the inauguration of the exhibition, along with Maher El-Sherif, head of the Egyptian Commercial Office in Berlin, Mahmoud Safwat, director of the food industries in EDA, in addition to several Egyptian parliamentarians.
Khaled Youssef, CEO of EDA, said this is Egypt’s 20th participation in the exhibition, stressing that it provides an opportunity for Egyptian companies working in the fruit and vegetable sector to communicate with world companies. The exhibition acts as a platform for Egyptian agricultural crops to enter the German market in the vegetable and fruit field and other related industries, such as packaging and shipment of vegetables and fruits.
Youssef added that the EDA has implemented a large advertising campaign to promote the Egyptian pavilion and the products displayed in the exhibition inside and outside the exhibition and also placed posters on the Taxi in Berlin, which toured throughout the German capital Berlin, which contributed to increase the appetite of major importers and retail chains to visit the exhibition and the Egyptian pavilion.
He pointed out that the German market is one of the top five export markets for agricultural crops, where Egyptian agricultural products to Germany, excluding cotton, accounted for 10% of the total agriculture exports in 2018. He added that the German market is a gate for Egyptian exports to access Europe that alone accounts for 45-70% of total Egyptian fruits exports.
Mahmoud Safwat, director of the Agricultural Crops Exhibitions Sector at EDA and head of the Egyptian pavilion, said that the exhibition witnessed a great response, as it was visited by 78,000 people. The exhibition provided a comprehensive image of the latest innovations and products, adding that the EDA coordinated with the Egyptian commercial office in Berlin to invite major importers and traders in Germany to visit the Egyptian pavilion and arranged for bilateral meetings during the exhibition.
