Egypt’s unemployment rate decreases to 8.9% during Q4 2018: CAPMAS

Egypt’s unemployment rate registered 8.9% of the total labour force in fourth quarter (Q4) of 2018, while it was 10% in Q3 2018, with a decrease of 1.1% and a decrease of 2.4% from the same quarter last year, according to Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) on Thursday.

The CAPMAS said that the labour force was estimated at 28,027 million individuals (22,686 million males and 5,341 million females). The labour force in urban areas reached 11,385 million individuals, while it reached 16,642 million individual in rural areas.

Furthermore, the CAPMAS added that the number of unemployed individuals reached 2,491 million (1,445 million males, 1,318046 million females), 8.9 % of the total labour force, and decrease of 429,000 unemployed individuals by 14.7% compared to Q3 2018, a decrease of 818,000 unemployed individuals by 24.7% compared to the same quarter of the previous year.

“The unemployment rate among males recorded 6.4% of the total males in the labour force, while it was 6.8% in Q3 of 2018 compared to 7.8% in the same quarter of the previous year,” the report read. “The unemployment rate among females reached 19.6% of the total female labour force, while it was 22.8% in Q3 2018 compared to 23.3% in the same quarter of the previous year.”
