Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi held a meeting on Sunday night with the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), the state-owned Al-Ahram newspaper reported.
The meeting came a day after the Arish attack that targeted a security checkpoint southern the North Sinai. The military said that the attack resulted in killing and injuring 15 military personnel.
The army added that seven militants were killed in a clash between the security forces and the militants following the attack.
The Islamic State’s (IS) affiliated group in Sinai on Saturday claimed responsibility of Arish attack. Since 2013, the North Sinai has been rocked by several terrorist attacks, targeting hundreds of security personnel, mostly carried out by the IS terrorist group. A state of emergency has been imposed in the governate since October 2014.
Last Thursday, Al-Sisi headed to the German capital Munich to take part in the 55th edition of the Munich Security Conference (MSC). Held between 15 and 17 February, the event is an annual world leading forum for debating over international security policy.
During the forum, Al-Sisi presented Egypt’s strategy to enhance African efforts during the upcoming period under Cairo AU chairpersonship, as well as addressing efforts to combat terrorism and illegal migration.
