About 75 firms participated in the US embassy’s fifth version of the ‘Shaghalna’ job fair, offering over 6,000 job opportunities, the Cultural Affairs Officer at the US embassy, Ruth Anne Stevens-Klitz, told Daily News Egypt on Saturday, on the side-lines of the fair, adding that 13,000 applicants registered for the offered jobs.
For the first time, a number of entrepreneurial firms are participating in 2019’s version, she noted, asserting the US mission’s beliefs in entrepreneurship’s role in boosting Egypt’s economy.
“The ‘Shaghalna’ job fair idea started as a programme for the people who participated in the US exchange programmes, as they found difficulties to get good jobs despite their high skills, good English, and good international experience,” she explained.
Noteworthy, the job fair has been growing from year to year, she added, clarifying, “there are couple of things that made the fair successful, first is that we check the participating companies very carefully, and the second is the fair being free for job seekers.”
“The US embassy pays a great attention to the programmes which help reduce unemployment rates, including such as INJAZ’s, as well as the programmes of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) which target job creation,” she mentioned.
Additionally, 2019 will witness the US’ participation in some musical performances in Egypt in March and September, she said, adding, “we are very proud to be sending a group of Egyptian designers to the New York Design Week, in partnership with the ministry of trade and industry.”
