The total length of Egypt’s paved road network increased to 179,900 km in 2017/18, compared to 176,900 km in 2016/17, an increase of 3,000 km (1.7%), according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics’ (CAPMAS) inventory bulletin on roads and bridges in 2017/18 issued on Sunday.
CAPMAS stated that the length of paved roads built by the General Authority for Roads and Bridges reached 28.100 Km in 2017/18, up from 27.500 km in 2016/17, an increase of 2.3%.
Meanwhile, the length of paved roads built by provincial departments of roads amounted to 141.700 km in 2017/18, compared to 140.200 km in 2016/17, an increase of 1.1%, while the length of paved roads built by the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) reached 10.100 km in 2017/18, up from 9.200 km in 2016/2017, an increase of 9.2%.
Moreover, the CAPMAS added that Egypt has 36,326 bridges, including 1,757 bridges affiliated to the General Authority for Roads and Bridges, representing 4.8% from the total number of bridges in Egypt.
Furthermore, 430 bridges belong to provincial departments of roads, representing 1.2% from the total number of bridges in the country.
This figure also includes 57 bridges built by the NUCA, 1,053 bridges by the National Authority for Railways, 33,021 bridges by the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, and eight bridges by the National Authority of Tunnels, CAPMAS stated.
