US Charge d’Affaires, Thomas Goldberger, visited Minya city in Upper Egypt, joining the Binational Fulbright Commission in Egypt in an event celebrating the Fulbright Commission’s 70th year in Egypt.

Goldberger and other representatives of the US embassy met with the President of the Minya University, Mustafa Abdel Rahman, and the university council. They attended a reception ceremony at Minya University’s Museum of Fine Arts.

The event highlighted Fulbright’s active art and humanities portfolio in Egypt.

The charge also met with the Governor of Minya, Qasim Hussein. They discussed political, economic, and social developments in the governorate, which has nearly six million inhabitants.

The charge showcased the embassy’s initiatives in Minya, including financial aids provided by the USAID in the agriculture, water, business, tourism, and health sectors, as well as an active English language teaching programme for high school students, and other cultural and people-to-people exchanges with the United States.

The charge also joined the governor in a visit to the Minya branch of the Misr Public Library and met with graduates of the English Access Microscholarship Programme, which has provided two years of supplementary English language learning for thousands of high school students throughout Egypt.
