The Suez Canal Economic Zone Authority (SCZone) is negotiating with three companies to legalise their situation regarding the 4.9 sqkm plots of land grabbed in the area of East Port Said
High-profile sources told Daily News Egypt that negotiations are ongoing to settle the situation of a plot of land seized by businessperson Ahmed Bahgat, estimated at 1.8 sqkm. The rest of the unused lands were withdrawn, estimated at 21.93 sqkm.
The sources added that there are also negotiations with the Gulf Canadian for Ready Mix Concrete to legalise its situation and carry out settlements on their seized lands of 100 sqkm.
Furthermore, the sources said that the situation of International Drug Agency for Pharmaceutical Industry (IDI) was legalised. The company seized lands of 20 sqkm. The rest of unused lands of 280 sqkm were withdrawn. The decision was approved by the cabinet, and coordination is currently underway to repay EGP 4.4m to the SCZone.
The sources said that negotiations have also taken place with TCI Sanmar Chemicals company and others whose lands spin on an area of 1,855 feddan. The authority has managed to collect EGP 149.3m after the settlements.
The sources added that the negotiations with TCI Sanmar are on lands of 3.8 sqkm. About EGP 93.2m were collected for leasing these lands for four years.
Mohab Mamish, chairperson of the SCZone, said that the East Port Said area has seen several friendly negotiations and settlements with some of the companies working in salt extraction in the area.
He explained that the area has amended the usufruct contracts with some companies. The authority has implemented the cabinet’s decision No 409 for 2012 to withdraw lands from investors who are not serious in implementing their projects.
Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly visited the SCZone last Thursday in order to follow up the developments and updates of the projects in the area. He said that agreements were made with investors there for an implementation plan of their projects which will be reviewed on a monthly basis, in coordination with Mamish.
Furthermore, he explained that investors have requested to solve some issues, so that they could be committed to the implementation, such as building a residential city for workers, which will be discussed with the minister of housing.
