The Ministry of Antiquities celebrated Mother’s Day on Thursday through a temporary exhibition showcasing the belongings of the women of Muhammad Ali dynasty. At the Mohammed Ali Palace in Manial, and for a month, rare relics are to be showcased.

Overlooking the Nile, the palace is one of Cairo’s breathtaking royal castles. With mesmerising sceneries, and fancy architecture, as well as royal furniture, visitors are offered the chance to dig deep into the lives of Muhammad Ali’s females to see 30 pieces of their personal jewellery and makeup.

The belongings include some of the cosmetic tools the royal family used to have, and they will be displayed for the first time.

Hadeer Adel, head of the temporary exhibition at the Mohammed Ali Palace, stated in a press release that the exhibition portrays the royal family’s women beauty care routine, including a silver ‘Makhala’, which is the kohl pot which women used during the era.

The exhibition also showcases Makhalas that are made of loose diamonds and gemstones which were especially made for the royal family. Other than that, a number of silver decorated mirrors are to be showcased in the exhibition, as well as shoes made of pearls.
