The Nuclear Power Plants Authority (NPPA) received a site permit for the building of Dabaa nuclear power plant from the Egyptian Nuclear Regulation and Radiological Authority (ENRRA), the head of NPPA announced on Monday.
He explained that obtaining the site permit marks a milestone in the Dabaa project licensing process. The site permit came as a conclusion of a detailed comprehensive review by ENRRA of the documents submitted by the NPPA in 2017, which included data about the reactor installation, site data and characteristics, information about the companies that have studied the site, and the project’s environmental impact assessment (EIA) report reviewed by the Environmental Affairs Agency.
According to the Dabaa agreement with the Russian company Rosatom, the constructions of the first 1,200MW nuclear reactor will begin next July and the second reactor in January 2021.
In January 2022, the construction of the third 1,200MW reactor will start, while the fourth reactor with a capacity of 1,200MW is to be inaugurated in July 2022.
