The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT) has a four-pronged action plan to implement Egypt’s 2030 strategy in order to achieve the country’s digital transformation, to accomplish further efficient management of the state’s resources, MCIT Minister, Amr Talaat, said.

Talaat’s statement came during Egypt’s international technology innovation summit titled ‘Narrative Disruptors’ which was launched on Sunday.

The summit is organised by the Egyptian public relations (PR) firm CC Plus, in partnership with the leading digital solutions company VictoryLink. It is a side-forum of an international PR gathering, the Narrative PR Summit – also created by CC Plus – and the first implementation of the summit’s 2018 key recommendations.

Talaat explained that the first step is to focus on preparing people for the transformation, through science, and technology literacy, adding that “We have a plan and legislations to provide all government services in a digital format for citizens, and we have already passed the Electronic Crime Law and we are now in the process of issuing legislation to protect citizens’ data, and finally the advancement of the information infrastructure in terms of speed and spread.”

Furthermore, Talaat, affirmed that the world is experiencing the fourth industrial revolution, which is becoming increasingly accelerated every day, as our communication with others and our work has witnessed a great difference.

“Some say that technology is killing jobs, but that’s not true. In the field of electronic commerce in France, technology has lost 500,000 jobs, but in contrast, another one and a half million jobs have been created but new jobs are different,” he said, adding that “We must recognise this tremendous transformation and promise our young people how to gain the flexibility, expertise, and techniques to deal with these developments in the labour market.”
