British companies see huge opportunities in Egypt’s health care sector, according to James McMillan, senior associate at Al Tamimi & Company, adding that Egypt and the UK signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) recently to promote the health care system in the country.

Because of the huge demand in Egypt, the local authorities try hard to develop the health care system to meet the population needs, McMillan told Daily News Egypt, adding, “there are many opportunities in Egypt in terms of investment.”

On 25 January, Egypt and the UK have signed an MoU on Thursday to boost bilateral cooperation in the health sector.

According to a statement by the embassy, the British ambassador to Egypt Sir Geoffrey Adams and Ahmed Hussein Elsobky, assistant minister of health, signed an MoU to increase cooperation between Egypt and the UK in the health sector. The MoU aims to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and skills between the two countries, as well as to offer training to medical professionals in Egypt.

The agreement will also encourage joint work between representatives from both countries to invest in human capital.

The British companies’ interest in the health care sector is increasing, McMillan asserted.

Six British companies visited Egypt recently to scope the possible business opportunities in the health sector, a previous statement by the embassy said.

In the three-day visit, the companies held meetings with senior government officials and heads of hospitals, and visited the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone).

The visit was organised by the Egyptian British Chamber of Commerce (EBCC) in partnership with the British embassy’s Department for International Trade and the British Egyptian Business Association (BEBA), noted the statement.
