The Minister of Petroleum Tarek El-Molla said the largest fuel production complex of high octane, and another for gasoline, diesel, and butane are being implemented in Assiut with total investments worth $2.3bn.
He pointed out that the two new projects will contribute to reaching self-sufficiency for Upper Egypt in terms of various petroleum products.
El-Molla said the two projects represent a model for advanced refining projects which apply the latest technologies in the industry in order to provide high-quality petroleum products that meet the requirements of the market, and are carried out by Egyptian companies specialised in the implementation of the projects. The two projects are established by Enppi and Petrojet, in cooperation with specialised international companies.
During an inspection visit of the expansions of the refinery of Assiut, the minister of petroleum stressed that the new petroleum projects are the axes of development in Upper Egypt.
Furthermore, El-Molla added that increasing refining capacity is a priority for the ministry in light of the directives of the political leadership and its continuous follow-up of this file. He also emphasised the rapid development of the refining industry and the increase of refining capacities which Egypt possesses through new projects which contribute toward securing the country’s needs of gas and petroleum, making it a regional hub for their trade.
At the beginning of the inspection tour, the minister headed a meeting of the higher committee for refining projects to follow up on the executive situation of the two high-octane gasoline production projects of the Assiut Petroleum Refining Company and the complex for the production of gasoline, diesel, and butane, as well as to understand the updates of each one based on a specific timetable.
