The Egyptian army killed 47 alleged terrorists during four military operations in Sinai, the military spokesperson stated on Thursday.
Different kinds of weapons, ammunition, and explosive devices were confiscated by the forces, the spokesperson added, explaining that the terrorists were planning to plant those explosives in north and central Sinai. The army also arrested 158 criminal suspects in the operation.
Moreover, two military officers and three soldiers were killed, while four other soldiers were wounded during the operations, the statement added.
The air forces took part in the offensive and destroyed 29 hideouts of terrorist elements.
The military also destroyed 97 four-wheel vehicles, 33 cars, and eight motorcycles that were used by militants.
The military also discovered and defused 385 explosive devices planted to target the Egyptian security forces.
Furthermore, 585 rifles of various kinds, two machine guns and 2088 bullets were confiscated. The forces also destroyed two tunnels in cooperation with the border guards.
For the navy forces, they continue their operations in the Red and Mediterranean seas to protect economic and strategic sites and to maintain security in the Egyptian waters, the statement highlighted.
In last February, the military launched a comprehensive operation, titled “Sinai 2018”, to confront militants in central and north Sinai, the Nile Delta region, and the Western Desert.
