Scatec Solar finalises 50MW solar plant in Benban

Scatec Solar has completed the implementation of a 50MW solar power plant as part of the second phase of solar energy feed-in tariff project in Benban, Aswan.

 

Sources in the company told Daily News Egypt that the company linked the output of the solar station yesterday, after the completion of the performance and operating tests, and it will start selling the energy produced from the project to the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC).

 

The sources pointed out that the total added capacity to the national electricity grid from solar power plants amount to 950MW from 20 projects. The Benban project output will increase to 1.4GW as 11 more projects gradually come online.

 

A Manager at the EETC for Upper Egypt, Sami Abdou, said that the station is connected to the national grid at 500kV and 220kV. He noted that the purchased energy will be paid for since they were linked and used on the grid.

 

Furthermore, Abdou pointed out that four transformer stations were established for the Benban projects, each working at 22/220kV, to receive clean energy generated and converted to the unified electricity network. Each one links nine stations for solar energy generation.

The World Bank has announced that the Benban solar project won the first place amongst projects it implements worldwide. It is considered the largest complex in the Middle East and Africa, with 32 projects covering 37 sqkm in Aswan.

The sources pointed out that the implementation of the double-road and the modification of the western Aswan/Cairo desert road was finished in the area opposite the solar energy project.

Both the security and safety of workers and projects in general are two of the most important requirements stipulated by international funding institutions which conduct meetings and surprise inspection visits to ensure the standards of security and safety on site are met, as well as the adherence of workers and engineers to the rules of general security and safety.
