President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi stressed the need to provide all the organisational, administrative, and logistical means to ensure the success of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON), on Monday in a meeting with the government

Egypt will host AFCON from June 21 to July 19.

The president gave his directive during the meeting on Monday with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, presidential aide for national and strategic projects Sherif Ismail, Minister of Defense Mohamed Zaki, Minister of Interior Mahmoud Tawfiq, and Minster of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhy.

Al-Sisi also called for constant coordination among the relevant authorities to make the tournament “a distinguished sporting event, especially under Egypt’s current presidency of the African Union (AU),” Presidential Spokesperson Bassam Rady said in a statement.

The meeting tackled all preparations for the 2019 AFCON, including “security arrangements, health services, and media coverage of the tournament,” the spokesperson added.

The Egyptian state has been getting ready to host the tournament by facilitating transportation, telecommunication, and logistics. The tournament will be played on six stadiums all over the country.

On Saturday, Egypt’s transportation ministry announced that it will inaugurate three new metro stations in Heliopolis within the scope of the fourth phase of development of the Cairo Metro Line 3, on June 15 ahead of the AFCON.

The Egyptian team has entered a closed camp in Borg El Arab, Alexandria, on June 6 to prepare for two friendly matches against Tanzania and Guinea on June 13 and 16 at the Borg El Arab Stadium.

In AFCON, Egypt was placed in Group A with Uganda, DR Congo, and Zimbabwe.
