Receipt of tenders for constructing first dry port in Egypt on July 11

The ministries of transport and finance’s public-private partnership (PPP) central unit will receive technical and financial tenders for the establishment of the first dry port in the industrial zone in the Sixth of October City in Egypt on July 11, according to press statement on Tuesday.

 

In accordance with international standards on an area of 100 feddan, three international consortia compete to win the implementation of this project. It serves ports of Alexandria and Dekheila and the industrial zone in the Sixth of October City.

 

The port will operate full inspection and customs procedures.

 

“This dry port will provide all the traditional port services, especially regarding the completion of customs clearance procedures for incoming and outgoing containers. The Sixth of October dry port will receive an international identification number for the ports, where the shipping can be directly taken to the port as a final destination,” said Atter Hannoura, head of PPP central unit.

 

Hannoura added that the PPP central unit is working on preparing all the required mechanisms for a tender for the ports of 10th of Ramadan and Beni Suef. This is in preparation for the commencement of the procedures of these tenders after singing the contracts for the Sixth of October City dry port is completed.

 

The two ministries plan for the establishment of seven dry ports to reduce the load on the ports, speed up customs clearance procedures for the containers, and prevent their accumulation. All of this will in turn provide new job opportunities, he said.

 

Hannoura elaborated that these dry ports will provide all port services within the framework of the state’s plan to develop the transport system as one of the pillars of economic growth. Essentially, this will also contribute to facilitating the movement of foreign trade.

 

He pointed out that the contract for the implementation and operation of dry port in the Sixth of October is for 30 years and then the ownership of the project will be transferred to the state.
