Minister of Environment, Yasmine Fouad, was invited by the Italian ambassador to Egypt, Giampaolo Cantini, to take part in several environmental events that will be held in Italy soon. Fouad received the Italian ambassador at the headquarters of the ministry in Cairo on Friday.
These events include the green technology exhibition Ecomondo 2019 which aims to showcase the latest models of sustainable development. According to a statement from the ministry of environment, Egypt will be an honoured guest in the forum due to its achievements in the field of green technology.
The minister welcomed the invitation. She also stressed her interest in giving the private sector the opportunity to participate in the exhibition, in order to expand the base of partners, stressing Egypt’s keenness to cooperate with Italy in environmental issues and to benefit from Italian expertise, especially in the field of biodiversity.
Fouad and Cantini also discussed the expansion of Egyptian-Italian cooperation, especially in the field of solid waste management. They discussed the activation of the third phase of the solid waste management project in Minya governorate and its feasibility in other governorates.
For his part, the Italian ambassador praised cooperation with the ministry of environment in supporting and developing nature reserves such as Wadi Al Rayan in Fayoum. He stressed his country’s aspiration for further cooperation in the future.
Additionally, Egypt will take part in the Barcelona Agreement Conference regarding protecting the Mediterranean Sea from pollution.
