The Libyan National Army (LNA), headed by General Khalifa Haftar, attempted to take control of Yarmouk camp south of the capital Tripoli on Saturday, after violent confrontations with forces of the Government of National Accord (GNA).
However, officials from the GNA announced that it pushed back the attack, in statements to the Anatolia news agency on Friday.
Meanwhile the GNA air force also said on Friday that has launched 12 air strikes on the eastern posts of the LNA during the past 72 hours.
GNA forces spokesperson, Mohamed Gonono, said in a statement that, the air strikes targeted LNA posts and supply routes in Asbi’ah and Shwerif towns in southwest Libya.
Moreover, as a response to the statement issued on July 16 by six Arab and western governments, which called upon conflicting sides in Libya to halt violence, the Libyan High Council of State expressed its surprise at the names of some countries in the statement issued.
The council added that it is concerned with the reports which “indicates unequivocally that certain countries support the LNA militias with weapons and individuals.” It also demanded that the United Nations and the Security Council take a strong action against these states.
